If you want a great sesame chicken recipe then you should try this one. Depending on how sweet you want the sauce, you can lower the amount of sugar or increase the vinegar.

Serves: 4 to 6 servings
  • 3 boneless chicken breasts (about one and a half pounds total)
The batter/marinade:
  • 2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 6 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
The sauce:
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili paste
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup sugar
  • Peanut oil, for deep-frying
  • 3 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds (required for garnish)
  • 5 to 6 cilantro sprigs (required for garnish)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons sherry vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 3 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • Salt
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons finely chopped scallions (required for garnish)
  1. First, wash the chicken under cold water, dry it and trim off all excess fat. Before putting into a big mixing bowl, cut the chicken into one-inch-sized cubes. Now, add the marinade ingredients into the bowl and stir until combined. While you prepare the sauce, put it aside to marinate.
  2. In a deep-fryer or heavy-bottomed pot heat enough oil to come halfway up the sides of the deep-fryer or pot, to 375 degrees F. Now, fry the chicken in small batches about 5 to 6 minutes, until golden and crispy. Use a wire mesh strainer to remove the chicken and drain it on paper towels. Season it with a salt for taste. In order to serve, first arrange the fried chicken o a platter and then pour drizzle with the sauce. Garnish with cilantro sprigs and scallions, and sprinkle with a generous amount of toasted sesame seeds.
