Cookies are great snacks. They provide quick energy and also contain some beneficial nutrients. Many cookies contain a lot of processed sugar and saturated fat, but oatmeal raisin cookies are some of the healthiest cookie types which you can find.

You have the opportunity to add nutrition when you are making oatmeal raisin cookies yourself. By using whole-wheat pastry flour rather than refined white flour you will add more dietary fiber and complex carbohydrates.

In addition, by cutting back on butter and substituting some of it with applesauce, you will slightly alter cookies’ texture, but it will add minerals and vitamins and reduce the number of calories per serving. If you reduce added sugar and use more raisins for the natural sweetness you will get healthier cookies. Make oatmeal raisin cookies for a quick snack and your kids will love them. You can also make them when you don’t have a lot of time since it takes only 26 minutes in order to bake these delicious cookies.

Serves: 36 servings
Whisk together and set aside:
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of kosher salt
Cream wet ingredients:
  • 1 cup of unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of dark brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
Then stir in:
  • 1 and 1⁄2 cups of raisins
  • 3 cups of oats (not instant)
  1. In the first step, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Whisk dry ingredients and set them aside. Now, combine wet ingredients using a hand mixer on low. Increase speed on high in order to cream, and beat until fluffy and color lightens. In the next step, stir the flour mixture into the mixture which is creamed, until no flour is visible. Tip: Keep in mind that over mixing develops the gluten which makes a tough cookie. Next, add the raisins and oats and stir in order to incorporate.
  2. In the third step, fill a #40 cookie scoop and press against the side of a bowl. Now pull up to the level dough. Tip: Do it just to measure two tablespoons of dough. Now, drop 2-inches apart onto a baking sheet which is sprayed with nonstick spray. In the last step, bake until golden, but still moist beneath cracks on top, on the center rack, for about 11 to 13 minutes. Now, remove from the oven. Leave cookies on baking sheet for about 2 minutes, before you transfer them to a wire rack in order to cool.
